If your physician has
ordered a special diet for you, the Dietary Manager will
visit you to discuss the diet, your food preference, and
the menu selection. Should you have any problems
relating to your meals and/or meal service, please ask
your nurse to arrange a meeting with the Dietary
Manager.
Your stay at
the Hendricks Community Hospital will be made more
pleasant by the extra services provided by members of
the volunteer staff. Volunteers work in occupational
therapy, operate the gift cart, beauty shop, and assist
with other tasks around the hospital. If you wish, they
will write letters, read, and answer questions for you.
For your convenience,
volunteers take a gift cart with personal items, small
gifts, stamps, and other numerous articles to patients'
rooms every Friday. You may also purchase items during
the week from the display cabinet locked in the front
lobby. If you desire an item from this cart any other
day, please ask the nurses and they will help you.
Mail will be
delivered daily to your room by an adult volunteer.
Outgoing mail may be given to one of the nurses or
volunteers for mailing.
The coffee cart,
located in the patient lobby of the hospital, is
operated by the Hospital Auxiliary. Please feel free to
help yourself to coffee and lunch items at any time,
based on your ordered diet. Lunch donations go to the
Hospital Auxiliary.
Your safety is
one of our primary concerns. Falls are the most common
type of accident among patients. To avoid accidents,
please don't walk on wet floors. If you spill something
or see a spill, please ask for assistance.
The Hospital has an emergency plan that involves
various drills held on a regular basis to ensure maximum
safety and readiness. If a drill occurs, a Hospital
staff person will assist you.
Patient and visitor
parking is available in the main parking lot in front of
the main entrance.
Flowers coming to the
hospital will be delivered to your room by a member of
the staff. If any flowers arrive after you discharge,
you will be contacted by us and you may pick them up at
the Business Office.
One (1)
guest tray will be given to any relative staying with a
child under six (6) years of age. In other
circumstances, a guest tray may be requested and this
may be paid at the Business Office.
Relatives of critically ill patients may eat in the
cafeteria. You should pay for each meal as you receive
it unless prior arrangements have been made with the
Business Office.
Swing Bed Care,
which is Medicare reimbursed, is available for short
term continued skilled nursing care with less nursing
care and physician visits than hospital care.
Hendricks
Community Hospital has an active Home Care Program, with
objectives to provide care that is not interrupted
between hospital care and care needed at home. Services
available include (but are not limited to) provision for
special needs following surgery such as dressing
changes, follow-up on medications or treatments, assist
in care management for the elderly, rehabilitation care
following an accident or serious illness, and terminal
care management for someone who desires to stay in
his/her own home as long as possible.
